From Sketch to Reality: The Journey of a Bespoke Drinks Cabinet

Updated: 15 hours ago

Every bespoke piece begins in exactly the same place - not in the workshop, but with a conversation.

Before a single piece of timber is selected or a machine is switched on, we take the time to get to know our clients. We want to understand how they live, what inspires them and how they want their furniture to fit into their home. These conversations shape every project we create.

This bespoke drinks cabinet is a perfect example of that journey.

The Initial Concept

Every project starts with an idea.

Before any software is opened or machinery is switched on, Steven still starts many projects with a traditional hand-drawn scale sketch. It's a skill developed over decades of experience - one that's becoming increasingly rare in today's digital world. These drawings allow ideas to flow naturally and form the foundation for everything that follows.

For this cabinet, the brief was to create a statement piece that combined elegant storage with everyday practicality. It needed to feel timeless, complement the character of the room and provide a dedicated space for entertaining.

Technical Drawings

Once the concept has been agreed, the project moves into the hands of our Technical Draughtsman, Gabriel. Using CAD software, he transforms the initial sketch into a detailed manufacturing drawing, ensuring every measurement, detail and mechanism is accurate. This stage is where technical challenges are identified and resolved, working closely with David and the workshop team to make sure every element, from door clearances to internal layouts, works perfectly before production begins.

Bringing the Cabinet to Life

With every detail finalised, the project moves into the workshop.

Using the technical drawings as a guide, the cabinet begins to take shape piece by piece.

From carefully cutting and assembling the components to checking every fit and finish, this is where the design starts to become a reality.

Preparing the Finish

Before the cabinet receives its final finish, every surface is meticulously sanded

by our apprentice, Miko.

Careful preparation is essential to achieving a flawless result. Once ready, each piece is spray finished by Ewen, whose precision and attention to detail bring the cabinet to life with a beautifully smooth, durable finish.

Installation Day

The final stage is one of our favourites. Every piece is carefully wrapped and protected before being delivered and installed by our team. Seeing months of planning, craftsmanship and teamwork come together in our client's home is always incredibly rewarding - and it's the moment when a bespoke project truly becomes part of someone's everyday life.

The Result

The finished cabinet is a beautiful combination of thoughtful design and skilled craftsmanship.

Its rich painted finish, elegant glass display cabinets and striking stone worktop create a focal point that's both practical and sophisticated. Designed around the client's lifestyle, it offers dedicated storage for glassware, bottles and entertaining essentials while becoming a standout feature within the room.

But for us, the most rewarding moment isn't in the workshop.

It's seeing our client's reaction when they see the finished piece in their home for the first time.

That's the moment months of planning, design and craftsmanship come together - and it's a feeling that never gets old.

Whether you're looking for a statement drinks cabinet, a fitted media wall or a completely bespoke piece of furniture, every project starts in the same way - with a conversation.
